Rainy Wednesday

Sorry I have not been keeping up to with the info. Lots of baseball yesterday and late Monday night. Here is what has been happening. We have finished pool play with a record of 5 & 1 and wind up being the 21st seed for regular play. They are going to start regular play today and try to move things along because of bad weather. We are scheduled for 2:00 but just got notice that everything is on hold because of more rain.

We have been visiting everyone. Breakfast with the Crumley's, Chesters and Stephens. Dinner with the Casey's, Roaches, & dinner with the Wrights, Hendersons, and Litras. I hope we have not over imposed on anyone. We have been catching a shower & restroom wherever we can. I found a new spot at the campground with a private restroom and shower combo. Good stuff.

While we wait for some rain delay we are able to tune in to our Campground Reality show. How many people are in that RV? What exactly are they doing over there?

Keeping clean is vital with all of us in such a small place. It is a constant battle.

Baseball Finally

Game time is finally hear 10:00pm vs the Bay Valley Bombers. We have heard they might be a force to deal with. They had a couple of kids in the skills finals so not too sure what to expect. True California half the team several players have long hair. I should have brought my clippers. Hayden nicknames one kid Andre the Giant because he is very big and his hair is long and bushy.

Killing time in Cooperstown

Now what are we going to do? We have paid $10 to park it is raining and we have no where to go. Got a go shopping. We grab a bite of lunch nothing to special and we visit a few spots when the bucket drops. No way no how we are playing any baseball today. Hayden, Sammy & I go back to the RV to catch a nap and Kim does what she loves a little more shopping. Kim should be in the Shopping Hall of Fame she can find a bargain anywhere especially in a tourist town. She returns to show off her bounty. She has done good.

We call up Carrie and the Casey's to see what they are doing and invite ourselves over for a visit and to do some laundry. We catch a little TV and get our fix. Kim takes the girls back to the site of her best bargains and they all share in the bounty.

While they shop Sammy and I visit with Too Tall and sneak in a quick hot shower.

We decide we should start getting ready for our 9:30 game but we need something to eat. Robert suggest Yum Yums and what a treat!!! Tummies are full but our bottoms are getting cold so we bundle up and head to the park.

The Baseball Hall of Fame

This is sacred ground! You could spend days her, all the records, all the news clippings, and all the photos. Baseball is truly Americas Sport. The few hours we spend here do not due it justice.

We arrive pretty quickly considering the time of notice. More Mommas make the viewing of their babies than I expected. The boys are already roaming around and the Coaches look a little bunkhouse weary.

We get more notice that the games are now pushed back further. We are now scheduled for 9:30. More time to kill.

Rainy Sunday

We woke up early Sunday excited to finally play some baseball. Only one problem it is raining cats and dogs. Are we still in Atlanta? Craig sends a text at 9:00am - our 1:3o is rescheduled to 5:30. Now we have some time to kill.

Hayden, Sammy and I are going thru a little bit of TV withdrawals but we have found a new reality show right here in the camper. We watch out the windows to see what the other campers are doing. It is especially good early in the morning. I can only imagine what they have to say about us or what they have heard as we search for a sock, or complain about the toilet.

With time to kill the Coaches decide they are going to take the boys to the Museum. We unplug the RV and head to town. Not to sure how many other families are going will be able to react that quickly. Wait a minute the Momma's will not miss a chance to see their babies after all it has been over 12 hours.

Skills Competition

We put our best on the field and did not quite pull it off. In the around the horn we made one drop that cost us, we only hit one home run in the King of Swat, hit the board once in the golden arm, and we slipped between 1st & 2nd in the speed competition. The times and scores we had posted in Atlanta would have been very competitive just no luck today.

Now we can get to playing some baseball

Opening Ceremony

First Class is the best description I can start with. It is truly all about Baseball and the kids. They create a fun atmosphere and talk about Baseball and its American Roots with an emphasis on America.

I am very impressed with the whole operation!!!

Why won't the AC start???

When we get settled in after dropping off the boys we realize the AC is not running oh no what are we going to do? Luckily we have Mr. Dennis next door and our awning starts flapping. Mr. Dennis rushes over to offer assistance and he tells us that he used to work at an RV place. We need to buy some lottery tickets. Everything is good we do a little cleaning of clothes and bodies. We are headed to the park at 4:00 for opening ceremony and skills competition.

Checking In

We meet at McDonalds to get everyone lined up to enter the park. We have heard rumors of several hours on Friday night but we get thru in about 10 minutes. Lucky Cabin 13 shared with the SFCB Colts. A little bite of chaos with 11 Mommas making sure their babies are all tucked in at least one time. Now the fun starts everyone is trading pins like crazy. With the help of Hayden and Sammy we get all but around 30 teams. Now for the real trading. They kick all the adults out of the park at 11:00 and we head back to the campground.

First night in Cooperstown

We really were not planning on all 6 of us sleeping in the RV. Needless to say it gets a little tight but that is what I was planning on an adventure.

Cooperstown Finally

We finally arrive in Cooperstown around 5:30 just in time to check-in the campsite. Once we get checked in we realize we have made one small mistake no way to get around without driving the RV. We should have rented a car. We make it to Cooperstown and go to the Double Day Cafe "A drinking spot with a baseball problem". We meet at the Litras house for a gathering of all the families and one last planning meeting. The boys all play a little wiffle ball in the front yard. Baseball is ubiquitous around here!!!

Hersey Tour

We meet at the Hersey World of Chocolate to see a 3-D movie and go to a tasting class. We learned a little about Mr.Hersey the Henry Ford of the candy business and the town he started for all his employees. Kids had a little fun and we are off to Cooperstown.

Friday, June 4, 2010

We get to Hersey and check into our motel room to crash around 4:30 before meeting the Chesters, Benings, & Stephens for a bite to eat at a local Italian Restaurant. We wind up letting the boys swim for a little while. We decorate some banners/posters and call Craig to mess with him. Up early to go to the Chocolate factory and head to Cooperstown.

Gettysburg

We make it to Gettysburg around noon and plan on catching everything out. It is a nice town not exactly what I expected but then again not sure what I expected. We saw the Cylclorama, the museum and drove thru a few of the battlefields. The magnitude is hard to believe especially for 130+ years ago. If I remember correctly 16,000 men die in one battle.

Rolling up the road

We left Atlanta around 6:00 Wed evening and did not even think about stopping until Commerce. Please forgive any misspelling the bandage on my thumb slows me down a little. Anyway had to have a Zac snack for the road. I think we must have been in a time warp because the speedometer said 70 but after 6 hours we were only 300 miles up the road just south of Blacksburg Virginia. Kim says they have a lot of very nice welcome centers in SC, NC, & VA. At around 1:30 we stopped at a Virginia welcome center to take a rest for a few hours. I felt pretty safe with all the tuckers parked around. It is a little cramped with all 6 of us. Kim volunteers me to sleep on the queen bed in the back with P&T and I make the bad decision to get in the middle. I woke up around 3:00 to go the restroom, we still have not broken the seal on the RV. Tell me why the night watchman is one of those guys from the movies with one eye checking the stars and the other looking for rats on the ground? That was not so bad but why was he standing only 45 feet from my RV? I finally settle backdown and wake up to Turner six inches from my face looking me in the eyes and exclaiming the he had dreamed he was an Ostrich and so was Parker. No more sleep for Sam. Lets get rolling. We make pretty good time while everyone is sleeping. Hayden & I notice a little extra noise and realized that the window in the side door has slipped a little bit. No big deal just tighten it a little or worse case stop at Walmart and get a squeeze tube of silicone. When everyone wakes up, we stop at the Walmart near Woodstock VA to get a few supplies and work on the door. Easy fix take out a few screws, silicone the window back in place and back on the road. While working on the window it slips a few times cuts my thumb no stitches required just a tourniquet, and gets silicone all over me. Luckily Lowes was close by and we got a new piece of glass back on the road and headed to Gettisburg.

We are getting excited for the expedition. We have spent the last couple of days packing the camper and making sure we have everything. I am sure we will forget something but Walmart is not far away. We are planning on leaving Wed night and are trying to get a few hours up the road. A friend is working on a tour of the Hersey plant in PA so that is our goal for Thursday. It is supposedly only 6 more hours to Cooperstown so we should be able to arrive in plenty of time to get the RV hooked up.

Below is the link to the Cooperstown Dream Park web-site that shows all the teams, the times we are playing and a links to the live web-cams.
